Lesson 1: What are Fine Motor Skills?
Hello, and welcome to the Fine Motor Method! This lesson is all about the WHAT of this course. First, we are going to discuss the different domains of early childhood development. On this web you can see these areas of growth that are essential to the foundation of every child. As early child educators, we need to understand each area and know how to create activities and lessons that will foster growth in each of these aspects. In this particular course we will be discusses the two areas of cognitive and fine motor growth, so combining these two areas. When we talk about cognitive development in this course we are mostly focusing on the academic objectives for these ages.
So, what are fine motor skills? They are activities that focus on and use the small muscles in your hands, wrists, and fingers and the ability to make precise movements and show endurance in these movements.
In the next couple of lessons, we will learn more about why these skills are so important and will break down this domain into different categories. We will also discuss the different skills involved in this category so that hopefully you will have a clearer picture as to what to focus on when planning your lessons. In the next couple of stages, we will learn different materials to use, how to organize as well as brainstorm, create, and execute these lessons and activities in your classroom.
As always, please let me know any questions that you may have. I will see you in the next lesson!
